MORNING PRAYER

To Start the Day

Lord, may this day be Yours.

May my actions glorify You.

May my words flow from You.

May my spirit find rest within You.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Amen

INVOCATION OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Leader:                 Come Holy Spirit

All:          Fill the hearts of your faithful, and  kindle in them the fire of Your Divine Love, who by the gift of understanding have united all nations in the unity of faith.

Leader: Send forth Your Spirit and they shall be created

All:          And You shall renew the face of the earth.

Leader: Let us pray:

All:          Oh God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit instructed the hearts of the faithful, Grant, that by the same Spirit we may be truly wise and ever rejoice in His consolation.  We ask this through Christ Our Lord.  Amen.

                We fly to your patronage, O holy Mother of God; despise not our petitions in our necessities, but deliver us always from all dangers, O glorious and blessed Virgin.  Amen.

The Acclamation of Christ
at the Dawning of the Day

The Acclamation of Christ at the Dawning of the Day may replace the Preparation as the start of Morning Prayer on any occasion.

O Lord, open our lips
All and our mouth shall proclaim your praise.

All May Christ the daystar dawn in our hearts
and triumph over the shades of night.

 (or)

All Visit us with your salvation
and sustain us with your gracious Spirit.

O come, let us sing to the Lord; •
let us heartily rejoice in the rock of our salvation. R

Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving •
and be glad in him with psalms.

For the Lord is a great God •
and a great king above all gods. R

Come, let us worship and bow down •
and kneel before the Lord our Maker.

For he is our God; •
we are the people of his pasture and the sheep of his hand. R

All Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.

(The refrain may be repeated.)

One of these, or a seasonal prayer of thanksgiving, is said

Blessed are you, Sovereign God, creator of all,
to you be glory and praise for ever.
You founded the earth in the beginning
and the heavens are the work of your hands.
In the fullness of time you made us in your image,
and in these last days you have spoken to us
in your Son Jesus Christ, the Word made flesh.
As we rejoice in the gift of your presence among us
let the light of your love always shine in our hearts,
your Spirit ever renew our lives
and your praises ever be on our lips.

An Order for Night Prayer

Preparation

The Lord almighty grant us a quiet night and a perfect end.
All  Amen.

Our help is in the name of the Lord
All who made heaven and earth.

A period of silence for reflection on the past day may follow.

The following or other suitable words of penitence may be used

All Most merciful God,
we confess to you,
before the whole company of heaven and one another,
that we have sinned in thought, word and deed
and in what we have failed to do.
Forgive us our sins,
heal us by your Spirit
and raise us to new life in Christ. Amen.

O God, make speed to save us.
All O Lord, make haste to help us.

All Glory to the Father and to the Son
and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning is now
and shall be for ever. Amen.
Alleluia.

Before the ending of the day,
Creator of the world, we pray
That you, with steadfast love, would keep
Your watch around us while we sleep.

From evil dreams defend our sight,
From fears and terrors of the night;
Tread underfoot our deadly foe
That we no sinful thought may know.

O Father, that we ask be done
Through Jesus Christ, your only Son;
And Holy Spirit, by whose breath
Our souls are raised to life from death.

PRAYER TO MARY, HELP OF CHRISTIANS

Most Holy Virgin Mary, Help of Christians,

How sweet it is to come to your feet

Imploring your perpetual help

If earthly mothers cease not to remember their children,

How can you, the most loving of all mothers forget me?

Grant then to me, I implore you, your perpetual help in all my necessities, in every sorrow, and especially in all my temptations.  I ask for your unceasing help for all who are now suffering.  Help the weak, cure the sick, convert sinners.  Grant through your intercessions many vocations to the religious life.  Obtain for us, O Mary, Help of Christians, that having invoked you on earth we may love and eternally thank you in heaven.

PRAYER TO SAINT JOSEPH

Leader: Behold the faithful and prudent servant whom the Lord set over His house.  Pray for us, Holy Joseph.

All:          That we made worthy of the promises of Christ.

Leader: Let us pray.

All:          O God, wonderful in your saints and more wonderful in blessed Joseph, placing him over your family as the dispenser of heavenly gifts, we beseech you, that we who devoutly venerate his name on earth may, through the assistance of his prayers and merits, happily attain unto the haven of salvation, through Christ our Lord, Amen.

PRAYER TO ST. JOHN BOSCO

O glorious Saint John Bosco, who in order to lead young people to the feet of the divine Master and to mould them in the light of faith and Christian morality didst heroically sacrifice thyself to the very end of thy life and didst set up a proper religious Institute destined to endure and to bring to the farthest boundaries of the earth thy glorious work, obtain also for us from Our Lord a holy love for young people who are exposed to so many seductions in order that we may generously spend ourselves in supporting them against the snares of the devil, in keeping them safe from the dangers of the world, and in guiding them, pure and holy, in the path that leads to God. Amen.
